McCain campaign suffers a "Heart" attack
I really did get a good laugh out of this one - it seems the McCain campaign, for the umpteenth time, doesn't realize the implications and ramifications of using a copyrighted song without permission. The latest transgression is the song Barracuda by Heart, which the campaign used to introduce GOP Vice Presidential Nominee Sarah Palin during the GOP Convention this past week.
From TMZ:
Ann and Nancy Wilson are pissed at the Republican Party and have fired off a cease and desist letter to the McCain/Palin campaign. As C&L noted yesterday, the McCain camp has also, without permission, used the songs Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You by Frankie Valli, Runnin' on Empty by Jackson Browne, and the theme song from the original Rocky movie. The campaign has also gotten into a legal skirmish over using footage from the movie Wayne's World without permission.
Specifically, the Heart women are upset that the GOP has used their classic "Barracuda" as a theme song for Sarah Palin. TMZ obtained a statement from Heart's rep, who says "The Republican campaign did not ask for permission to use the song, nor would they have been granted that permission."

UPDATE: Twenty minutes after we posted this story, the GOP ended the evening after McCain's speech with the song, "Barracuda."
I guess we can just chalk this up to another example of how McCain resembles President Bush - at best, it signifies arrogance and stupidity, and at worst, McCain feels as if the law doesn't apply to him, the latter an attitude that we've become all to used to during the Bush administration.
Labels: Barracuda (Song), Heart (Band), John McCain Campaign for President, Republicans' Respect for the Rule of Law
