College Retardlicans mock global warming with beach parties

I read today in the Wall Street Journal that College Republicans are mocking the movie An Inconvenient Truth by having global warming beach parties. (And just so any of you don't think I'm getting this from some left-wing hack site, click to get the story Here.) I don't mind reminding you that the WSJ is proudly one of the most conservative papers in the country.

Anyway, I got a good laugh from reading this. Talk about elevating the discourse. So, instead of coming up with a cohesive film of their own or perhaps providing "evidence" that the science is wrong, let's ridicule and mock a problem that affects every person on this planet. What ignorant mother fuckers. Quite frankly, I'm not going to devote too much space to it on my blog - I've got better things to do with my time. My mother always taught me to turn the other cheek, look for the good things in people, and not to hate. But, reading that made me pretty angry, and I thought, well, fuck it. I wonder, would it make me a bad person to wish skin cancer on these douche bags during these beach parties? How about a tsunami? Okay, that was harsh. I'll settle for wishing for a shiver of hungry sharks.

I went to the College Republican Web site, thinking that surely people, even Republicans, couldn't be this ignorant by believing that global warming is a myth and that the science is largely inconclusive. Well, it didn't take me long to happily find a whole ration of shit to laugh at and mock. Besides the "myths" about global warming, I found an article joking about polar bears drowning because of melting ice in the great white north, and after a few clicks from the main site, I even found some entertaining claims about smokers being "victims." I thought I'd share with you a few of the smoking, um, "facts" on the site:

*Smokers already pay taxes that are too high to be fair, and far above any cost they impose on the rest of society.

*The public health community’s campaign against smoking is based on junk science.

*Litigation against the tobacco industry is an example of lawsuit abuse, and has “loaded the gun” for lawsuits against other industries.

*Smoking bans hurt small businesses and violate private property rights.

*The harm caused by smoking can be reduced by educating smokers about their options.

*Punishing smokers “for their own good” is repulsive to the basic libertarian principles that ought to limit the use of government force.

If you are truly bored out of your mind, click Here to read more about this stuff, on a page called The Smoker's Lounge. And keep in mind, this was two clicks away from the main College Republican site. Reeediculous.

Global warming a myth? Sure, and Dubya won the 2000 election, Nixon was framed, Scooter Libby acted alone, and Ronald Reagan knew how to fight terrorism. (On that last one, just ask the families of the 241 U.S. service members killed how they liked Reagan's retaliation. That should be an interesting conversation, but I digress.)

Perhaps these young rubes shouldn't be scorned too badly, though. They are just following their leader...
