Please sign the stem cell petition: tell Bush no go on veto
I looks like President Bush is going to veto stem cell legislation, AGAIN. I'm wondering if Congress can muster the votes to override a presidential veto this time; many Republicans are in favor of federal funding with some strict oversight (a position I agree with). What can you do? Sign a Petition to tell President Bush to not veto the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act. (A Bush veto is expected as early as Monday.) You can add comments at the end when you sign the petition. Here's what I wrote to President Bush:
Mr. President,
I have no idea why you are so adamantly opposed to stem cell research. The only explanation I can think of is religious ideology. I totally respect you for your religious beliefs, but there has to be some sort of common ground that can be reached in Washington among Republicans and Democrats.
I urge you to work with both parties in Congress to come up with a sensible bill so the federal government can adequately and rightfully fund stem cell research, while mandating the oversight it requires.
Sincerely,
R.J.

I'm not holding my breath that the petition will do anything, but it beats doing nothing. Quite frankly, I gave up on Bush listening to political opinion about anything, especially since the '06 election. He now suffers absolutely no political consequences for anything he does. His party might, but he's no longer accountable, and he acts like it.
But, that shouldn't stop us from making our voices heard. Please sign the petition, and also let your Senators and Representative in Congress know how you feel about the stem cell bill. You can reach your Congressional legislators by calling the Congressional switchboard at (202) 225-3121.
