Sign the petition to jail Karl Rove

And no, that's not a joke - Rove really should go to jail for refusing a Congressional subpoena. Check out the round-up of media coverage above - my favorite is when George Stephanopoulos asks him about the Don Siegelman case, and Rove hems and haws and stutters like crazy. That is the face of a liar. I've been meaning to write about Siegelman for some time now, and I will definitely do it this weekend.

Anyway, go to the Brave New Films Website and sign the petition to jail Rove for defying a Congressional subpoena. I'm not always big on petitions, but it only takes a minute to sign it. Better yet, write your House Representative - find out who it is if you don't know by clicking Here.

Fox Attacks: Michelle Obama

Brave New Films has put out another video, this one about Faux News' attacks on Michelle Obama, which have been frequent, hateful and slanderous. Typical of the network, it will say something way out of bounds, and then issue a tepid apology, after which it will go right back on the attack.

From a Brave New Films press release:

Not only are they [Fox News] smearing Michelle Obama with racist stereotypes, but then they offer a feeble apology that they believe gives them the right to slander her again. FOX's long history of racism is nothing new, but it has been particularly egregious when it comes to their coverage of the Obamas. Racism and fear mongering have no place in our country or its politics, despite what FOX would have you believe.

You can sign Brave New Films' petition to demand Fox "stop injecting racism, prejudice, and fear into our political dialogue" by clicking Here, although I think that probably encourages the hate monger decision makers who run the network.

Brave New Films: The Real McCain 2

Brave New Films has created another John McCain video, dubbed The Real McCain 2. In it, BNF does a pretty nice round-up of McCain reversals over the years on a host of issues. Probably my favorite is when Tim Russert asked McCain during one of the Republican debates about his quote regarding economic matters - that he doesn't have the expertise and know-how to deal with these issues (I'm paraphrasing). McCain, like most politicians who are embarrassed by an inconvenient fact, denies it, flatly asserting, "I don't know where you got that from..."

Just days later, Russert took McCain to task on Meet the Press, providing the quotation and where he got it from (the Wall St. Journal). BNF doesn't include McCain's response to Russert in the film, but he basically just laughed and hemmed and hawed his way into a side step, and didn't really answer the question.

Petitioners to NBC: stop parroting Fox News

This is the kind of stuff I love to see - it certainly doesn't happen enough these days. The organizers of this petition drive have more than a beef; they have a legitimate point. The path from Republican talking point to the mainstream media is becoming more apparent and transparent over time.

It's pretty well known that Matt Drudge, the right-wing hack behind The Drudge Report, is in regular contact with the powers that be on the Republican National Committee. Hence, a talking point becomes a story on Fox. Since Fox is the number one rated cable news network, and every other network wants to catch them, they often parrot what Fox is reporting.

I've got a $20 that says those 200,000 signatures ended up in the trash, but I don't mean to sound cynical. I admire the effort, and I wish I would have known about it ahead of time, because I certainly would have signed it. It's only movements like these that will bring about much needed changes in the mainstream media, because it won't happen without making our voices heard.
