Colbert hits a trifecta

Is there any wonder why Stephen Colbert's Colbert Report won a Peabody Award? This latest clip is one of his wittier ones in recent memory, as he hates on the Myanmar junta, Michelle Malkin and Scott McClellan. That's quite a trifecta.

As angry as I get over Malkin and McClellan, Colbert brings me (and millions of others, presumably) back down to Earth with just the right amount of sarcastic humor.

By the way, I'll have much more about McClellan later tonight - the press has been in a feeding frenzy, and the way he's hitting the talk show circuit, you'd think he was shamelessly plugging a book full of ideas that he should have said years ago when he was really in a position to make a difference.

Okay, I had to post one more parody of Bill O'Reilly's rant, because the parodies are getting funnier than Billy's temper tantrum.

My two favorite TV commentators together

I love this interview - two of my favorite political personalities on television. In addition to The Daily Show & The Colbert Report, if you're missing Bill Maher Friday nights on HBO and Keith Olbermann every weeknight on MSNBC, you're missing some ot the best political commentary on TV.

And Maher has a point about Bush's reaction upon hearing the news the morning of 9-11. I've often what went through this mind at htat moment. Obviously, we'll never know, but I've always thought it was something like, "Wow, the presidency isn't going to be a cakewalk after all."

Keith O on CBS Sunday Morning

I loved this informative piece, and unfortunately I didn't get to see it this past Sunday. (Score one for YouTube.) It's a CBS This Morning interview with MSNBC's Keith Olbermann, and it's a great look behind the glasses, bluster and bubbling anger that defines him. KO is now my favorite political figure on TV, edging out Jon Stewart by a nanometer. (But TDS is always essential viewing.)

I'm doing ANYTHING but taking 2008 for granted, but if a Democrat captures the White House, I wonder what will become of people like Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart and Olbermann?

Won't change a thing, claims KO, a self-described baseball nut. "If a Democrat did these things [referring to the Bush Administration], I would be out there just as ferociously," he said.

One thing's for sure - he's not going anywhere, and I couldn't be more delighted; he just signed a four-year contract extension with MSNBC to continue Counting Down for us every evening. Sweet.

Sleep tight, Mr. O'Reilly.

Stephen Colbert has truly arrived

Stephen Colbert has truly arrived. It's pretty safe to say that you've arrived once you've had a Ben & Jerry's flavor named after you, and Colbert as, cleverly dubbed Americone Dream.

Not only is it cool that my favorite ice cream company has named a flavor after one of my favorite TV personalities, but the actual ice cream sounds yummy, too. More on that in a minute.

Coolest of all, Colbert is donating all the money from proceeds he makes on his new flavor to causes such as food and medical assistance for disadvantaged children, helping veterans and their families, and environmental causes. 'Way cool.

Ben & Jerry's has a long history of caring about its environmental impact, too - the company is a very strong voice behind efforts to combat global warming - yet another reason to give this flavor a try.

Stephen Colbert is donating his proceeds from the sale of AMERICONE DREAM to charity through The Stephen Colbert Americone Dream Fund. The Fund will support charities of concern to Stephen such as food and medical assistance for disadvantaged children, helping veterans and their families, and environmental causes. Said Colbert, “I will save the world.”
