Fighting the War on Error

How is our president like OJ? Read on...

I heard this one on the radio this morning, and I let out a whoop when I heard Bill Press mention it. I like Press, but he is a liberal radio talk show host, so I wanted to verify it.

This whopper involves White House Press Secretary Dana Perino (above) answering a question about Osama bin Laden:
Q: As far as Osama bin Laden and our national security is concerned, he has issued another tape and warning Europe and it may affect the United States. And also, yesterday Senator Obama called on the President to bring Osama bin Laden, who is in Pakistan. Does he think he's still alive, Osama bin Laden?

MS. PERINO: I would put it this way. The intelligence community analyzed the tape. They do believe that that was his voice. So that would mean that for all things - for all that we know, that he is still alive. And the President has a very aggressive hunt on for Osama bin Laden.
[Emphasis Mine] And I think in the tape, what Osama bin Laden was trying to do is to suggest that he stands for all Muslims, and I think that if you look at the facts across the board, especially what's happening in Al-Anbar province and across Iraq, that Arabs are starting to turn against them, and that is of huge strategic significance in the global war on terror.
That is quite simply the funniest, most ridiculous thing I've heard come out of a White House press secretary's mouth in a long, long time. It gets even funnier when one listens to Bush's comments about bin Laden a few years ago:

All you have to do is watch the first 1:45 to get the point. Looks like Dana's credibility fall down and go boom. But, what should we expect? This is the same Dana Perino who didn't know what the Cuban Missile Crisis was in an interview last December, too.

Don't get me wrong - I think every reasonable American and member of the press expects and even tolerates a certain amount of b.s. coming out of the mouth of any press secretary, under any president, but this takes it to a whole new level.

When I read "Bush," "aggressive hunt," and "Osama bin Laden," all in one sentence, it made me think of OJ. Yes, that OJ; you know, the one who has hired private detectives to conduct a thorough investigation and to aggressively look for Nicole Brown Simpson's killer(s). (At left is OJ, hot on the trail of his ex-wife's killers - they must have been grounds keepers or something.)

Maybe Bush and OJ could golf together - by the 18th, they could have the Simpson killers and bin Laden, all in jail.

Great time waster: OJ's blood-soaked tome

I found what appears to be a copy of OJ Simpson's ill-fated book, If I Did It, online. You can download the PDF Here. If you're interested, I'd download it fast before the link is disabled.

It's not a book I'm particularly interested in reading, but I thought I'd pass the news on. I have a stack of about 20 books on my reading list that rate above this one, and dozens more on my bookshelf. But hey, it's free, so if reading this interests you, you're a few clicks away.

OJ loses dough from scummy book

So, OJ's acquittal won't be profitable after all.

Finally, just a sliver of justice.

A judge ordered today that rights to O.J. Simpson's ill-fated book, If I Did It, be sold at auction to help satisfy the civil judgment won by the Goldman family - meaning the book could find its way into stores.

It's good to see the family of the late Ron Goldman finally winning at least a small victory of sorts against Simpson, who has at times approached taunting the Goldman family for being a free man.

"The Goldmans were horrified as to the content, but the real horror was that Simpson was profiting," said David Cook, Goldman's lawyer, in a Reuters story. "O.J. is now on the block. On the right hand we get to sell the book, and on the left we get the money."

A civil court jury found Simpson liable for the 1997 deaths of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman and ordered him to pay $33.5 million in damages to the Brown and Goldman families.

It still sucks that dirtball Simpson is free, but at least he can't lead an opulent lifestyle while avoiding the slammer. I'll go to my grave thinking OJ put two innocent people in their graves.

One down, one to go

What a day for justice, or lack thereof -- Jack Abramoff and OJ Simpson. One's finally in jail, and the other's flaunting the fact that he's not.

I'm not even sure what to make of the whole Abramoff Scandal anymore; it's one of the biggest influence peddling scandals ever to hit Washington. On one hand, I hope that everyone who is guilty is brought to justice, Democrat or Republican, but on the other hand, can Abramoff really be trusted? It's hard to say.

OJ is another matter altogether. We aren't talking about corrupt politicians - we're talking about two dead people. I don't know who to detest more, OJ for writing a book, If I Did It; or Fox for giving this human scum the publicity he craves. I urge everyone to not only not buy the book, but to not watch the interview.

I don't know who to feel sadder for - the Goldman family or OJ's children, all of whom have to be subjected to this latest indignation. It's a gut-wrenching, heart-breaking outrage.

Someday, this murdering sonofabitch will get what's coming to him - let's just be sure it isn't in the form of a fat paycheck for writing a book or giving an interview. Of course I'm interested in reading and hearing what a murderer has to say, but I'm not lining his pockets to find out.
