A sage This Modern World

I haven't published a This Modern World cartoon in a little while, and this one isn't the latest, but it is his latest greatest cartoon - how the Republicans keep shooting themselves, even worse than the Democrats for once. (And how many times have I been able to say THAT since I began this blog? Actually, how many times have I been able to say that in the last 30 years? Not many.)

Tom Tomorrow said in a much more sage and humorous way what I've been saying since Obama took the Oath of Office: Republicans whined for years that Democrats wanted to see Bush fail in Iraq (which I found to be mostly a lie - I know I didn't want him to fail, I just wanted to war to END, and I still do), and now Republicans, led by the bloated drug addict, are openly rooting for Obama's economic stimulus plan to fail, which could very well spiral our economy into another Great Depression. Yea, let's root for THAT for the sake of partisan politics.

Well, anyway, what does Limbaugh care? He's got his $100 million+ broadcasting contract, so if the economy tanks, he'll still have money for his Krispy Kremes and OxyContin, right? These people are unbelievable, and by "people" I also mean the Republican "leaders" in Congress. (I'll have more on those laughable clowns in a bit.)

More sage, spot-on political witticisms from Tom Tomorrow - I look forward to his cartoons every Tuesday morning. I love it that he even makes light of the two most annoying non-verbal actions by any candidates in recent memory - Palin's winking and McCain's blinking.

And, my friends, let's not forget, my friends, that he even mentions, my friends, McCain's most annoying habit of all... my friends. Whoever told him it was a good idea to start saying that should be fired given a raise.

TMW: Googling Palin's Afghan comments

This cartoon speaks for itself - another Palin lie, said with a w*nk and her "folksy charm." There's little doubt that whomever put those words in Palin's mouth about Obama's Afghanistan comments knew it was a lie. (I seriously doubt she did - she's little more than a parrot and a dupe for the neo-con artists who are trying to install McCain in the White House.)

The good news is that people are responding very negatively to all of the McCain camp's negativity. A CBS poll in the New York Times this morning has Obama ahead 53% to 39%, an increasingly widening gap for McCain to overcome.

I'm very curious to see how McDrilly will respond tonight - he must score a perfect knock-out punch, and I don't think we're going to see it. In a way, I hope McSame brings up Bill Ayers tonight, because I can guarantee you that Obama will be more than prepared with an answer. More on what that answer should be in a bit. I have to go listen to some student speeches.

Sorry for the relative inactivity lately - I've been very busy with both freelance photography and writing. Anyway, I'll be getting back at it with full force later on today and into the evening - God only knows there's plenty to be angry about.

In the latest This Modern World, Tom Tomorrow gives a well-placed beat down to the financial fleecing of the American taxpayer, courtesy of Wall St. greed. Plenty more on this later today.

TMW: The Politics of Resentment

This week's This Modern World is a spot-on assessment of where Republicans stand regarding the building resentment (and dare I say it, fear) about our rapidly crumbling economy. Things are indeed growing dire by the day with our economic system, and seeing John McCain, Sarah Palin and [GASP!] President Bush on TV saying "We are taking measures to stabilize the economy" inspires NO confidence whatsoever. In fact, it makes me more fearful than ever that the worst rube to ever occupy the White House has his hands on the controls for a little over four more months. Bush's management of the economy is akin to a crazy psychotic with a baseball bat loose in a China shop, who with a crazed look on his face, screams, "What can I possibly fuck up next?!?" while wildly swinging away. The ONLY fun part about all of this is anticipating how just about everyone with an "R" behind his or her name will try to pin this on the Democrats; it will make for some fun yet tragic listening.

Speaking of This Modern World, Tom Tomorrow's blog is always a must-read, and yesterday he offered this nugget:

Certainly would be a good time to have some of the $500 billion plus we've spent on the Iraq war.

Ya think? Great point - it makes the War in Iraq appear even more asinine, tragic and unnecessary than it already does to everyone but the most rabid Republicans.

I'll add this to TT's thought - Obama ought to put out a new ad with images of our smirking, war-criminal president in the background, with the a little music by The Police with the lyrics "I'll always be king of pain...," followed by the staggering economic numbers that are flowing from Washington to Wall Street.

Yea, I think that would work.

Lots more a bit later today - it's grading day for me - I have about 100 speeches to grade over the next few days, but I promise to find at least a few hours later on today to comment and post about so much that has been going on in the last few weeks. Bush TWICE (and I know many of them) are now talking about experience like it's an absolute must in anyone elected to the Oval Office. The blatant, disgraceful double standards amoung many conservatives will never, ever cease to amaze me.

This week's This Modern World is a good one - I especially enjoyed the part about McCain's creepy smile - whenever he does that smile, it's so obvious that it's so fake and forced, especially in the face of an unfriendly question. And could he possibly say "My friends" one more time? Yea, yea, yea, I realize it's an old FDR habit or something, but this isn't the 1930s; we just have a GOP presidential candidate who was born then. Wait, I love that irony.

Tom Tomorrow tackles the latent and blatant racism that is already rearing its ugly head in the presidential campaign merely in its embryonic stages. It's gonna get ugly. However, each and every time stuff like this appears on Fox News or is spewed by right-wing hate radio, it needs to be called what it is each and every time. Just because it's so omni-present doesn't excuse it.

I forgot to bring you This Modern World last week, so I figured I'd bring you both last week's (below) and this week's (above) in one shot. Both are pretty good, but my favorite one is below - Karl Rove's supposed "expertise" about what Repubes need to do to win the election this November. It's pretty amazing (but not surprising) that Fox hired him to offer his commentary about the upcoming elections. Considering that this disgrace to humanity has played such a critical role in putting the country where it is today, about the last thing the GOP should do the GOP should listen to all of his sage advice when plotting their fall '08 strategy. Enjoy.

This Modern World - superdelegates & race

As usual, Tom Tomorrow deals head on with issues that people don't want to talk about, and this week it's race in this presidential election. Race in this election is the white elephant in the room ~ you pick that scab, you uncover a lot of pus.

I do not buy into the notion that race is the only thing that people are considering in the voting booth, however. For instance, when people are filling up their gas tanks, seeing their subprime mortgage rates rise, or watching all of the death and destruction in Iraq on TV (oops, I forgot - our corporate media doesn't permit that), they probably aren't thinking about race.

I'm happily voting outside my race in this election ~ I can't think of anything more repugnant than casting my vote for McSame.

Latest TMW - Dubya in '09

This week, Tom Tomorrow looks into his crystal ball to see what Dubya will be up to in February '09, and it's pretty amusing. Personally, I'd like to see him behind bars, but there's a fat chance that will ever happen. It never hurts to dream, but what does hurt is seeing what this administration is getting away with, and it's Watergate on steroids (pardon that contemporary pun). There is a case in the courts right now that could crack open the Bush egg of corruption involving former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman, but I'll blog on that at length later.
