Hannity: putting the Faux in Fox News

Sean Hannity might be the first person in history to do a political television show without even following the news. Wait, that can't be possible, can it? Or, maybe he's just knowingly lying, like so many members of the Bush Administration.

Anyway, you only need to go about 15 seconds into the video clip above to know what something has gone horribly, horribly wrong with Hannity's research department. In fact, the last person in charge of finding facts before a broadcast, Hannity himself, was relieved of those duties, oh, something like six years ago.

The president has NOT OFFERED his aides to testify under oath under any circumstances, you moron.

And for those of you who think it was an honest mistake by Hannity? Let's look at a few other "mistakes" by Fersatz News...

Mark Foley, a Democrat? Ha.

This one's over the top, even for these people. I don't know if this has been Photoshopped, and that kind of points to what Fersatz News has always been - a total right-wing network. The fact that this is even remotely believable should outrage all Americans.

If it were up to the Republican Party, Debate about any military matters would be a battlefield casualty. Along those lines, if Debate served in Iraq, would he have to serve three tours of duty? Would Debate, if he was wounded on the battlefield, have to come home and stay in a moldy, Roach Motel at Walter Reed? Hey, maybe Debate wouldn't have to serve in this war, like every other prominent Republican war-monger in this administration shirked duty in Vietnam. Ahh, if that happened, Dick would be awfully proud of you, Debate!

Corrupt, unethical, sleazy GOPers; the list grows & grows

God, I pray my drug dealer has more meth!

So much for the "family values" platform of the Republican Party. I have to admit that I get a kick out of sanctimonious Republicans who claim they represent these values, but in the end they can't shake the very vices they publicly scorn.

A quick laundry list:

Ted Haggard (Above): The embattled minister and Bush spiritual advisor recently admitted to reporters that he purchased methamphetamine from a male prostitute he had contacted about a massage. Haggard said he never used the drug and threw it away (Somewhere, Bill Clinton is laughing.)

When asked where he threw it away, he "couldn't remember." Haggard also admitted that it was his voice on the prostitute's voice mails asking to purchase meth. The male escort, Michael Jones, said on a radio talk show last Thursday that he and Haggard had a three-year homosexual affair, which included the use of meth. Hey, I've got no problem with homosexuals at all; quite the opposite, in fact. What I DO have a problem with is a supposedly pious man-of-the-cloth who publicly preaches against gay marriage and homosexuality, but his private life is just the opposite. You deserve all the scorn you're getting, Ted. Oh, P.S. - Haggard is married with five kids. And don't come at me with Jim McGreevy, either - he wasn't hiring male prostitutes or trying to score meth.

Mark Foley: This one's been covered ad nauseum, but there's something profoundly sad about a House Republican who is in charge of combating pedophilia & adults preying on minors who is subsequently revealed to be courting minor Pages working in Congress. Again, this isn't a gay issue, it's an adult/minor issue. But, it's all been done, so I won't spend too much time on this, other than to say that by just about every account, some very high level Republicans knew about Foley's issues long before the scandal became public, including Karl Rove and Dennis Hastert. And that's not my opinion, that's many conservatives.

Jack Abramoff: The Jack Abramoff Fundraising Scandal touches both parties, to be sure, but there's no question it affects Republicans much more than it affects Democrats. Abramoff pleaded guilty to corruption of government officials and defrauding operators of Native American casinos out of millions. Abramoff and his law firm were paid at least $6.7 million by the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) from 1995 to 2001, which is permitted manufacture goods with the "Made in the USA" label but is not subject to U.S. labor & minimum wage laws. After Abramoff paid for Tom Delay and his staffers to go on trips to the CNMI, they crafted policy that extended exemptions from federal immigration and labor laws to the islands' industries. What's even more amazing about this is that it's received little or no publicity in the "liberal press."



George Allen: (Above) The Republican incumbent is trying to hold onto his Senate seat in Virginia in a heated battle against Democrat James Webb. Late last week, a would-be provocateur approached Senator Allen to ask him some admittedly obnoxious questions, and the man was wrestled and slammed down to the ground by Allen's staff. The victim had no weapon and posed little if any threat, unless you consider a threat an embarrassing question. Watch the video and you decide. This isn't the first incident surrounding Allen's campaign - his behavior has become increasingly bizarre, including his use of a racial epithet. In September 2006, at one of his political rallies, Allen referred to S.R. Sidarth, who was filming the event as a "tracker" for the Webb campaign, as a macaca. Sidarth is of Indian ancestry, but was born and raised in Fairfax County, Virginia.

Tom DeLay: The "velvet hammer" turned out to be covered in Velcro - charges of unethical behavior finally stuck to him. DeLay resigned from Congress when he had no choice - when two of your assistants are convicted in the Abramoff Scandal, you don't have much choice. He's been involved in so much bullshit over the years, going all the way back through the 1980s, I don't even have time to type it all. I hold him in particular scorn over his efforts to slander, libel and defame President Clinton from the time he took office. What goes around, comes around. DeLay's going away, but his legacy will live on, and it's not a good one.

Bob Ney: Ney, a U.S. House Representative from Ohio who pleaded guilty last month in the Jack Abramoff Scandal, resigned from Congress on Friday. The Republican, who had been pressed to quit by fellow GOPers, sent a letter of resignation to House Speaker Dennis Hastert. the Jack Abramoff scandal snags another victim.

John Sweeney: The incumbent Republican Representative is locked in a heated battle with Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand to keep his New York House seat. There have been widespread reports that the police were called to Sweeney's residence on December 2, 2002 after his wife placed a 9-11 call saying he was, "knocking her around the house." He has promised to produce papers that would prove his innocence, but has since done nothing but obfuscate, claiming the papers are forgeries. I only wonder one thing when situations like this crop up - where the hell is his wife now? Keeping her mouth shut just so he can go back to Congress? Unreal. He also has a host of other questionable incidents in his recent past, including the Jack Abramoff Scandal. Hopefully, this sleazy Republican will bite the dust on Tuesday.

Don Sherwood: Sherwood is a special case this fall. The Pennsylvania Representative is in all sorts of trouble; hence, Sherwood's having trouble in his bid for reelection. He's admitted to having a five-year affair with Cynthia Ore, who he paid $500,000 to keep quiet about the affair until after the Nov. 7 election. The man's got balls, that's for sure. Sherwood also allegedly beat Ore up, prompting her to call the police on one occasion. When they arrived, Sherwood explained he was only giving her a "back rub."

So, there you have it, a GOP Scandals for Dummies List, which just scratches the surface, but frankly, I'm bored and don't feel like typing anymore. For instance, I haven't even touched on all of the scandals that have plagued Republicans since taking over the House in 1994 - the Clinton witch hunt, which uncovered multiple instances of adultery; Newt Gingrich and his multiple ethics violations; Rick Santorum rushing to Terry Schiavo's bedside to score cheap political points; Bill Bennett's gambling multi-million dollar gambling problems; Rush Limbaugh, a true OxyMoron if there ever was one, has got all sorts of problems, the least of which isn't his drug habits; and on and on. Don't get me started on Republican pundits, or I could be here all night.

My point isn't that Democrats are perfect - far from it. As I've blogged before, simply examine their 40+ years of running at least one House in Congress, and you'll uncover all sorts of nasty shit. But, the Democrats aren't in power now - the Republicans are, so it's their turn to feel the heat, and bear responsibility for the many things that need fixing in our foreign and domestic policy. I'm under no illusions that things will be flawless when/if the Democrats take over one or both Houses, but it's time for change. It's also time for some checks on President Bush's agenda - he's pretty much had his way over the last nearly six years with legislation, tax policy, and his budget and judicial appointments.

Tick tock, GOP. Hopefully, the clock is about to run out on your domination of our government.

Leslie Stahl latest CBS disgrace

Above is Part I of a a 60 Minutes interview of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi by Leslie Stahl this past Sunday.

I can honestly say that I haven't been more appalled at a 60 Minutes interview in a long time. Stahl might just as well have been working for the Republican National Committee. Don't get me wrong, I've got no issue or problem with a tough interview or probing questions of a politician affiliated with any political party - that's what journalists are for. But, Stahl revealed her bias with idiotic and leading questions and comments that had me wheeling me around in my chair. (I was listening more than watching; Sunday is often a busy day of writing and planning.) First, take a look at part II:



I'll get to the specific questions and comments I found highly dubious in a minute. However, after watching the interview, I'm wondering why CBS would air such an interview with such an outrageous slant and bias. We'll probably never find out, but I'll suggest a two-word motive - Dan Rather. Ever since Rather aired an unflattering story before the '04 presidential election about President Bush's time in the Air National Guard based on questionable documents, the network has been dogged with accusations of liberal bias.

Perhaps CBS thinks it can placate the far right with interviews like this one?

In short, Stahl is embarrassing herself and CBS News. Stahl begins her interview with this whopper: "I mean, you're one of the reasons we have to restore civility in the first place". Correct me if I'm wrong, Leslie, but it's Republicans who have controlled the House since 1994, and it's the GOP that has been setting the partisan tone in the House. Sure, the Democrats can take part of the blame, too, but wasn't it the Republicans who led the witch hunt against Clinton? Isn't it the GOP who have been ramming bills though Congress, mostly without reaching across the aisle and even working with Democrats? Isn't it the GOP that has been rocked by scandals, be it Mark Foley, Tom Delay, Newt Gingrich, etc?

It looks like 60 Minutes should restore civility to its show by yanking Stahl from its line of traditionally respected correspondents. That's certainly an opinion she could have and should have kept to herself. Can you just imagine the cries of "liberal media" if Stahl led off an interview with, say, Vice President Dick Cheney with a comment that he's one of the reasons we have to restore civility in Washington? Rush Limbaugh would have wet his pants and popped 10 Oxycontin.

At the top of the interview, after Stahl makes the absurd "restore civility" comment, she just gets rolling. I love it when she asks Pelosi about the names she's called the president, Pelosi said, "Oh, I was being nice when I said those things." Stahl voices over, "Oh reeealllly?!?" Someone correct me - does Stahl now work for Karl Rove or the Republican National Convention?

It gets worse. Stahl then asks Pelosi, with a straight face, "How are you going to work with him [the president]?" I find this amusing, since this administration hasn't really given too much thought to working with Democrats since Bush took office. In short, it's because Bush hasn't had to; he's enjoyed an almost total domination of Congress by the GOP since he was appointed president. It sounds like Bush, if the Democrats take back one or both Houses of Congress, is the one who's gonna have to worry about working with Democrats. And it will be an uphill battle indeed, since Bush and Karl Rove has spent almost six years pissing in the eyes of political opponents whenever they've had the chance.

Hey, I've got no problem with Stahl being a conservative, if she is in fact one, but the entire tone of this interview and broadcast is sickening. Later, in the interview, Stahl comments that Pelosi was pregnant while she was working, and then almost forces Pelosi's daughter to defend her mother on camera that they were amazingly still “fed and clothed” while Pelosi worked. What the hell are we in, the 1950s again?

Oh, there's more that got me full hot about this interview. How about Stahl's comments about Pelosi's clothes and how much she eats? Is that relevant in any way tp this piece? (A few quick examples by Stahl: "Here's Pelosi in Armani" and "Here she is in Cowboy boots" and "She ate not one but two pork chops.") I ask you, if this interview were about a man, would ANY of these comments been made about clothes or eating habits? Without question, no. Stahl's comments do nothing to add to the piece; they merely add to the perception that this is a Pelosi hatchet job (oh CHRIST, I sound like Bill O'Lielly now).

One would think that in the 21st century, a woman journalist would not put such ridiculous questions and comments in a broadcast about a potential first female Speaker of the House in U.S. history. Pelosi, if she does get elected the next Speaker if the Democrats take back the House, would signify a significant leap forward for all women. What kind of message is Stahl sending by asking such misogynistic questions? Not a good one. Stahl might as well have been a man circa 1955 wearing a wife beater, bellowing from the couch, "Get me another beer, bitch! When's dinner gonna be ready?!?"

I'm curious if Stahl would have treated woman pioneers Sally Ride, Sandra Day O'Connor or Madeleine Albright this way? I seriously doubt it.

Stahl ought to be ashamed of herself. I bet Stahl's daugher is real proud of this interview.

However, the Pelosi hysteria on 60 Minutes if just a small snippet of the drumbeats of doom that are being pounded hourly about a potential Pelosi speakership. Who can we count on to keep the "liberal hysteria" going? Why Bill O'Lielly, of course! Take a listen, and I won't even comment - the piece speaks for itself. Caution, you're about to enter the Dipshit Zone...

GOP's latest Foley diversion: Sandy Berger

The GOP spin machine knows no bounds. In the wake of the Mark Foley Sex Scandal, it's diversion time - a play that the American public should be all too familiar with by now. Hopefully, voters will read this play and drop the GOP for a loss in the backfield on November 7.

This time, it's a three-year old story of President Clinton's National Security Advisor, Sandy Berger, who evidently took a some classified documents from the National Archives in 2003. He pleaded guilty in federal court to one charge of unauthorized removal and retention of classified material and was fined $50,000. More on the story Here.

Of course, GOP shill Matt Drudge had it as one of his top headlines this evening. What a surprise.

I don't know whether to laugh or get totally enraged by this story. Yes, Berger shouldn't have done it. He pleaded guilty and paid a whompin' ass fine.

It's just amazing what the GOP will do to hold on to power. I wonder if there is anything from the Carter or Johnson administrations that need investigating? Or, perhaps we can beat the Clinton drum for another 3 1/2 weeks?

Buckle up, people - a desperate party about to lose power is an ugly thing, and there really aren't many things these people won't do.

If voters don't turn away the Republicans in droves, I will probably just about completely lose faith in our political system.

GOP's response to Foley? Clinton &... Studds?!?

I don't mean to be beating you over the head with YouTube clips today, but there's a great deal out there I've been meaning to bring you, and I'm behind. And besides, these are too damn good not to share.

I got this particular piece from Blue Spot, one of my new favorite blogs. It's a great round-up of idiotic Republicans responding to the Foley Sex Scandal.

Rush Limbaugh is always good for a laugh - evidently the OxyContin has worn off and he is under the delusion that he's some sort of moral authority again (I'd argue he never was).

Also interesting to hear Matt Drudge's take on this scandal, shilling for Republicans as usual. His argument sure is on solid ground, eh? I heard something on NPR this morning about Drudge that enraged me - evidentally he meets regularly with RNC Chair Ken Mehlman to receive Republican talking points and things to report about. Drudge's Website is one of the most visited political sites on the Web. Example 1,255,648 that we have a liberal dominated media.

I have to confess that I do drop by Drudge's Website, The Drudge Report, every so often, just to see what Republicans are whining and bitching about. He's not 100% Republicans, just about 90%. Above is a screen shot of TDR when President Bush made the mistake of nominating Bernard Kerik as his Secretary of Homeland Security. Oops.

But, I digress. Drudge's defense of the Foley Sex Scandal is laughable - that the pages were "egging on" Foley. Hmmm - Imagine if Democrats had cried that "Lewinsky was egging on the president"? Can you just imagine the firestorm that would have erupted?

Grand Old Perverts on borrowed time

For two straight days last week, The Daily Show effectively destroyed Republicans for the Mark Foley Sex Scandal. It's easier for you to watch the roundup than it is for me to write what these morons said, so take a look. The clip above is a little over nine minutes long, but trust me, it's soooo worth your time.

The video clip below isn't too bad, either. Watch them. Then, watch them again. This is the sad state of government in the United States today. Think that's hyperbole? People, Republicans control the White House, both Houses of Congress, and at an ever-increasing rate, the judicial branch, starting with the Supreme Court. And Republicans (and the pundits who parrot their views, including State TV, Fox News) will do or say just about anything to stay in power. About the only thing Republicans haven't done is use the military. Wait... Anyway, more after the video clip below.



Whether you like Jon Stewart or hate him, he does a remarkable job of skewering Republicans and exposing hypocrisy, and for that he should be commended. The best part about Stewart is that the show is well researched - nothing like clubbing Foley over the head with his own video tape from

It's just amazing how Republican lawmakers are running for cover in this scandal, which is a sickening disgrace. When I hear comments from some of these GOP legislators, I'm reminded of the Roman Cathlick Church and the sex scandals that have rocked it in the last 3-4 years. It's bad enough that altar boys were molested by the dozens (and probably hundreds) of priests in the first place, but what was worse was the church leadership that looked the other way for decades. Evidently, the same thing took place with Foley.

Even more laughable are the conservative pundits who are "analyzing" the whole incident. I can't possibly spell this out any clearer--

I fucking HATE Sean Hannity with every fiber of my being. Yes, I wrote hate - a word we are conditioned to shun, but what the hell is Fox spewing on state TV every day? Hate, but in slightly less overt forms. Insannity's comments and pathetic attempts at spin in the video clip at the very top (toward the end - approx. the last 1.5 minutes of the clip) about the Foley scandal are fodder for the bullshit cannon, and they run the risk of ruining his already useless reputation.

First, Hannity brings up a Democratic Congressman who was involved with a page 23 years ago. 23!! Nice. Then, *SURPRISE!* he brings up Clinton and Lewinsky, getting the latter's age wrong, saying she was 19 years old at the time of the affair. Well, Lewinsky was 22, and the affair was between consenting adults, but I'm sure Hannity made an honest mistake there, right?

I also get a kick out of how Hannity tries in vain to bring President Clinton into the scandal: "Now I don't mean to bring Clinton into this, but Monica was 19 years old." Besides getting her age wrong, Hannity lamely attempts to use an age-old trick - trying to hide behind your qualifier to absolve yourself of blame. Of course you meant to bring up Clinton, you dick! It reminds me of people who say, "No offense, but ________." Obviously they know it's going to offend you, or they wouldn't say that. Or people who say, "I'm not a racist, but ___________," and then say something racist.

The sad thing about Hannity is that there are people who actually think he speaks the truth (I'm friends with a few of them) and that the Democrats are behind all of this, and blah blah blah. Pathetic, sad and frightening, all in one human being. Impressive, really. Hannity's father, Rupert Murdoch, must be awfully proud.

The million dollar question about Dennis Hastert, the Speaker of the House, is what did he know and when did he know it? It seems like he's known about Foley's inappropriate behavior for some time; even conservative estimates place it at the beginning of 2006, at the latest, and I've read several other pieces which say Hastert has known about it for years. I'm not interested in a number, but if Hastert knew about it one week before it became public, swift and appropriate action should have been taken against Foley. Fair?

Since it appears that Hastert knew about Foley's misdeeds (crimes) ahead of time, that makes Hastert culpable, and at least partially responsible for allowing Foley's wildly unethical and inappropriate behavior to continue without consequences. Hastert should immediately resign. Considering his statements since the scandal erupted, I wonder if Dennis likes what he sees when he looks in the mirror every morning? You might be asking, am I referring to Hastert, President Bush, or Foley himself? Yes.

Predictably, with an election around the corner, Republican leaders are running for cover and calling the two plays they know best from their playbook: scare tactics and distraction.

Think about the Karl Rove playbook that we are so used to by now.

First off, the election year scare tactics:

Notice how in 2004 and 2006, the wedge issues "mysteriously" came to the forefront? Every speech that Bush gives has to talk about the War on Terror, but we get others, too, in election years: gay marriage, immigration, tax cuts, steroids in baseball, Terri Schiavo, you name it.

I also find is super mysterious that gas prices are suddenly dramatically dropping leading up to this election, too. (It takes shockingly little digging to discover which party is in bed with big oil.)

Now, we're treated with lame-assed attempts by Republicans to scare the shit out of voters - Dick 'n W are running around the country, overtly saying that Democrats can't keep us safe from the terrorists. The scary part is that some people actually believe this shit.

Here's President George W. Bush on CNN last week (10/4/06): "Vote Republican for the safety of the United States of America." The bastard has balls, I'll give him that.

I'll bet my bile duct that there will be some sort of terror alert just before the election, too, or maybe the president will declassify information telling us that a major plot had just been foiled, but that they "can't give us any details due to national security."

Last week Hastert implored House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to agree to have former FBI Director Louis Freeh look into the whole Foley scandal. When I read that, I almost spit up my stromboli. Freeh, a partisan GOP scumbag, would have just been another GOP mouthpiece. His record during the Clinton years is a disgrace - one of Clinton's biggest mistakes was not firing the bastard, but Clinton hesitated to because it would have looked like he was firing Freeh because Freeh didn't agree with him politically.

Also very amusing to me is Hastert (and other Republicans) blaming the whole Foley scandal on billionaire liberal activist George Soros. What a laugh. How stupid does Hastert think we are? It wasn't that long ago that Mellon Bank heir Richard Mellon Scaife was behind so much of the Clinton trash that was bandied about in the 1990s - most it lies reported as news. Think I'm bullshitting? Read about the Arkansas Project and who funded it. At least with Scaife, there's proof. Hastert is just throwing Soros out there, hoping people will just automatically buy into it without doing any reading of their own. Sadly, some will.

Since 1979, Scaife has donated over $407,000 to Republican candidates, and $2,500 to Democrats. Read about that Here. Scaife had strong ties to Kenneth W. Starr and he also funded the American Spectator, but later defunded the magazine when it was critical of him and wouldn't go along with campaign to call Vince Foster's death a suicide.

Lastly, I find it wildly entertaining that some GOP sycophants and politicians alike are accusing the Democrats of gay bashing. Democrats are doing nothing of the sort, and it's another half-baked attempt at distracting from the real issue, which is an adult, in a position of power, making sexual advances on an minor. It doesn't matter if the perpetrator is male or female, nor does it matter if the victim is male or female. And do Republicans honestly believe anyone who is gay will now turn on the Democrats? You've gotta be kidding. Anyone remember the proposed Constitutional Amendment by Republicans that would define marriage as something between a man and a woman?

It's the sign of an increasingly desperate party - now the GOP is even courting the gay vote! Amazing. I'll say it over and over - the party will do just about anything to stay in power.

Even prominent Republicans are recommending that Hastert step down, including Thomas Kean Jr., GOP Senatorial candidate in New Jersey.

Anyway, one more video clip worth watching...



The clip above is so money. How do the idiots on Fox even say this shit with a straight face? A few thoughts: 1. Where was all of this "investigating" about who is behind a scandal during the Clinton impeachment fiasco? Funny how Fox News all of a sudden now has investigative skills, but in the 1990s when Clinton was in office, the "network" would report any rumor as fact. 2. Even if it proves true that Soros is behind it, (and I'm far from that, considering it's from State TV), so what? If this stuff about Foley is true, I don't give a damn how it came out.

It's scary how inept our country's leadership is. We must have dramatic change in November. I pray it's coming.

Woodward should thank Foley

Bob Woodward should thank disgraced House member Mark Foley for his recent sex scandal.

Why?

Were it not for Foley, I absolutely guarantee that Bush, Karl Rove and their cabal would be coming after Woodward, guns blazin'. The question isn't if they will do it, but how. I write this because once the Foley mess dies down (or maybe even despite it), they will not let Woodward's unflattering tome of the Bush Administration go unanswered.

This is a ruthless party that will stop at just about nothing to stay in power. I bought State of Denial on audio CD and I've been listening to it every day on the way home from work. It's a sobering experience.

Woodward's paper, The Washington Post, largely gave the president a pass during the run-up to the War in Iraq (along with just about every other major newspaper and media outlet in this country). Another black mark for Woodward is his paper's coverage of the Valerie Plame Affair (I read the Post, so I have some perspective).

However, having said all of that, Woodward has about the best reputation and highest integrity of any journalist in our mainstream media today, and it's well earned. I'm not going to get into all of the reasons why or BW's past accomplishments (which are many), but it's tough to argue with his credentials, and that's due in no small part to his sources, many well placed and high up in our government.

My point? When Woodward makes accusations about an administration, people on both sides of the political aisle listen. And what he has to say in State of Denial is startling, damning, and it should frighten every American citizen.

When I finish the book, I will write a complete review.
